Dr. Eduardo Bustos Balderas

GENERAL INFORMATION::
Dr. Eduardo Bustos Balderas is a Mexican professional in the Radio-Oncology field who graduated from the Medicine Faculty of Universidad Nacional Autónoma of México, one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Once he finished his major he entered the specialty of Internal Medicine to get training from which the first year was done at Regional Hospital of Zona #25 of IMSS (the Mexican Institute of Social Security); the 2 subsequent years he received training at the National Medical Center of La Raza of IMSS where he finished his training period in 1996.
He started to work for IMSS right away, always in the internal medicine service where he strengthen his knowledge and also got a very “acute clinical eye” as well as great sensitivity to deal with highly complex medical cases not only for their diagnosis difficulty but for the devastating effect on patients and their families. For such reason and after having worked as an internal medicine specialist for 5 years, he contested to obtain a seat for the Radio-Oncology specialty, being successful not only in this attempt but also in successfully finishing the specialty in March of 2004. He served as the radio-oncology resident department chief during the last 2 years of the specialty and when he finished it he got a contract as a full-time physician in the radio-oncology department at the same hospital. During the following 6 months he was assigned the Brachytherapy service department and afterwards the Brain and Neck Tumor, Sarcomata and Central Nervous System Tumors service department. During his stay there he actively participated as a guest professor in the Medicine undergraduates program at Institution Politécnico Nacional also one of the best institutions in the country. He also performed as a clinic tutor for the Radio-Oncology specialty residency undergraduates. Along his institutional practice he was able to develop both, the public medical practice as well as the private service but the level of his professional performance was always the best and most efficient being irrelevant to him the patients’ socio-cultural status. Dr. Eduardo Bustos Balderas accepted Dr. Gordon L. Grado’s invitation to join this magnificent project which enhances the effort to improve the level of cancer patients’ care in Mexico. For this reason Dr. Bustos was trained in Image Guided Radiotherapy using helicoidal Tomotherapy and Brachytherapy for prostate cancer through radioactive seed implantation. This training took place in the city of Scottsdale Arizona.
